A movie about a rich, good looking photographer bedding hundreds of beautiful women and realizing he's going to end up alone? No way! That might sound like the synopsis to a fantastic biography about a worn torn photojournalist- but it's not. I mean we all knew what we were getting into when we first saw the trailers right?
This movie is bad for a multiple of reasons: it's a Christmas movie released in May, it stars Michael Douglas and Matthew Mcconaughey basically acting like themselves- womanizing sex fiends- but the worst bit is that it takes the premise from one of Charles Dickens greatest novels, A Christmas Carol, a book that has defined the conceit of the Christmas spirit since 1843, and completely craps all over it, taking the meaning behind the story and using it as an excuse to show you how hot Matthew Mcconaughey is. The only good thing about this movie is that since it's set during Christmas time, it's to cold for Mcconaughey to walk around without his shirt.
Not all is bad though, there's some nice life lessons, its just, yeah wow, this movie is pretty terrible. I mean can Mcconaughey make a decent movie? I don't think he's been good since How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days and before that, Reign of Fire. He's not a great actor, not even a good one, but he's better than he was here. I mean seriously, it's 90 minutes on how he's the man, and is that what we really want the Christmas spirit to be about, good looking people getting eveything in life? No deal!
