1) Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince
- a very slight week of new movie releases all because no studio is crazy enough to go against this juggernaut. What is this, the 6th movie in the series? Anyway, I’ve never been much of a fan of the Harry Potter films, but this one looks quite good, probably because it looks like a darker and more mature world that the spectacled magician is now entering. Here Harry learns more about Lord Voldemort’s past than ever before and with death and decay following, nothing will ever be the same. Evidently there are 12 minutes or so in 3D only at Imax, although because of Transformers 2, you’ll have to wait two weeks after this movie hits before it hits Imax. Seriously Transformers 2 shouldn’t be bumping Teen Wolf if it was in Imax let alone the new Harry Potter film.
2) 500 Days of Summer
- this is one of my most anticipated movies ever since it premiered at this year’s Sundance to universal praise. The film follows greeting card writer Tom (played by Joseph Gordon Levitt) and his new colleague Summer (played by Zooey Deschenel) first falling in love and the subsequent year and half period the two lovers spend together. Evidently this is supposed to be the anti-romantic movie, and well, I’ve professed this many times on the show, but Joseph Gordon Levitt is one of my favorite actors and who doesn’t want to spend 500 days with Zooey Deschenel? Hell, give me 500 seconds and I’ll be happy. Check this out in limited release. Fox Searchlight put out a call for moviegoers to vote on 5 different posters of this film and it’s nice to see the one I voted on win. Seriously it’s 500 small pictures of Zooey. Must buy poster now.
