Leftovers: LOST Epilogue (Leak?)

Looks like there's a 12 minute epilogue for LOST that will be on the blu-ray/DVD release. There is a minute and a half clip that can be found here but it seems that /film leaked the full 12 minute clip but if you go to the original posting the video doesn't work and if you dig further, it's been pulled! WHY was I not up at 2:30am when Joshua found the clip??? Anyway, if anyone finds it, please email cinemacafepodcast@gmail.com or shopgirlpenny@gmail.com. Leftovers: Up / Inception Mash Up Trailer

As you all know by now, I'm a huge fan of Inception, and I still plan to watch it again some time soon in the theater. I came across this trailer mash up on my Facebook feed and actually really enjoyed it. It mashes the scenes from Up and the voiceover trailer for Inception. I must say, this was done really well and I swear, if I was slightly more sensitive, I may have had a tear in my eye. Loved Up, loved Inception--can't go wrong right? See for yourself:



I also saw the Toy Story 3 / Inception mash up and it was cute but not as good.

Leftovers - Conan The Barbarian: The Musical

I'm not going to lie- I think the original 1982 Conan the Barbarian movie starring the governator himself, Arnold Schwarzenegger, is not only one of the greatest movies ever filmed, but also one of the greatest things ever created. Sure it's god-awfully cheesy and Arnold can't act his way out of his accent, but everything about it just clicks for me. I've watched it countless times and never imagined there could be anything better, anything more breathtaking. I was wrong. Like most things in life, the best and fastest way to make something better is make it into a musical. Jon and Al Kaplan have been turning films into musicals for sometime now, but I think they've reached their creative plateau with this one. The word epic should only be used to describe the greatest of concepts, the greatest of executions... and yes, this musical is truly epic. Check it out below and marvel at it's greatest because in the end all anyone ever wants is to crush your enemies, to see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentations of their women.

Leftovers: The Simpsons does Ke$ha

I know I'm a week late in posting this but I'm still loving The Simpsons' intro from last Sunday (May 2, 2010). If anyone knows me, they know I'm obsessed with Ke$ha's Tik Tok and when The Simpsons used the song for their opening with all the characters lip-syncing to it; and it reminded me why I still like the show. Maybe the show lost some of it's pizazz in recent years but I feel that it is still relevant and funny. If you haven't seen the intro, check it out:

New Addition to the Cinema Cafe Podcast - Book Reviews!!!

Penny and I love books. I mean really love books. My place is just surrounded with hundreds of books, stacked around as they build the fort that is my life. Penny's three great passions are shoes, clothes and books. My three great passions are comics, film and books. So we decided why not add a new "aspect" to the blog. The podcast will still be just about movies. But for anyone who has listened to our podcasts knows, most movies out of Hollywood these days are remakes or adaptations, so when a movie is released that's adapted from a book, we always try to compare and contrast both forms of entertainment. So starting this Wednesday we will have our first book review of hopefully many. Every time I finish a book I'll put up a review of it on the blog, and every time Penny finishes one, hopefully she can do the same. We hope that everyone who reads this blog can share in our love for both films and the written word and we hope everyone enjoys the new addition. Because as I always say, if you don't like books then well, that's probably because you can't read. Enjoy!!!

I love Arnie, you love Arnie. I mean he's one of the greatest and yet worst actors of all-time. I spent my childhood watching his movies, and now as an adult, I've realized I've probably left a part of myself within those movies. I'll never forget Arnie's quote from Running Man: "Killian, here's your Subzero, now plain zero." We apologize for the lack of content updates. We've been away in Montreal and have just gotten back from a nice relaxing vacation. With our batteries recharged, it's time to get back to some movie watching. This weeks podcast may be a day or two late, but don't worry, we'll defintley be getting it out to all our listeners. Back in January, MTV wanted Michael Cera to do promo's for his new movie, Youth in Revolt. Cera agreed with one stipulation, he would only do the promo's if he could meet the cast of the reality show, Jersey Shore. Why would he want to do that? Because he's a huge fan of the show, and really, who isn't? So here's a compilation of the time they spent together that aired during the season finale of Jersey Shore. So sit back and relax because it's time for some battling and fist-pumping action.

Leftovers - Between Two Ferns with Zach Galifianakis

As we bid adieu to the Late Night With Conan O'brien show and of course the departure of one of my favorite comedians who just can't catch a break, Andy Richter (seriously people, please watch the 2002 television show Andy Richter Controls the Universe ), I wanted to pay my homage to my favorite Late Night show.

One of my favorite Funny or Die skits is the "Between Two Ferns with Zach Galifianakis", a sort of public access type talk show where Zach interviews celebrities in a boring obtuse matter that causes wonderful awkward moments. It's all scripted, but it's wonderful nonetheless. The last one Zach did was with Conan O'brien and Andy Richter two months ago, and I thought I'd post it because seriously, more people need to watch the Two Ferns series by Zach. Leftovers - John Travolta Still Sings!! Covers "Every Little Step"

Remember when John Travolta used to sing, crooning into Olivia Newton-John's eyes? Just good old-fashioned family fun. Well, looks like Travolta is no longer content with having duets with women his own age. First there was the weirdly creepy (I don't know, maybe it's his goatee) almost love song between Travolta and Miley Cyrus for the Bolt soundtrack called,"I Thought I Lost You." Now comes a new duet with his 9-year old daughter Ella Bleu as they cover Bobby Brown's 1988 hit "Every Little Step" making a music video for his newest movie Old Dogs.

I have to admit, the man still has his moves, and his cover isn't terrible, it's just a tad creepy as Travolta dances around with this Chris Hanson type smile with his daughter... I guess the best word to describe the music video is awkward. Still I don't know what's worst about the video, the fact that Travolta dances around his daughter as the camera gets crotch shots of him and his daughter looks longingly into his eyes asking him to come away to her world, or the fact that the video contains clips of the movie Old Dogs. You be the judge.

Leftover - Work of Art: Artwork (2008)

Last night, I was in a mood to listen to some classic 80's melodic rock, and nothing says classic 80's melodic rock like the group Toto. While watching the video of Toto's Rosanna, a commenter on the video mentioned a group called Work Of Art, who released an album named Artwork last year. Always curious about new music, I decided to check it out. I gave the album a listen on YouTube, and needless to say, I was blown away. It's like someone in Sweden cloned Toto and let them loose on the public to wow crowds and nostalgic 80's music fans, like me. Like I said, they are a Swedish group, and they have said that they were highly influenced by 80's Rock. To quote their MySpace page influences, "Toto, Toto and Toto!! Well, ok, we also enjoy listening to following bands; Journey, Giant, Mr. Mister, Chicago, Maxus, Pages, Jeff Paris, Saga, Pride of Lions, Survivor, Vince Di Cola, Winger, Mr. Big, Tommy Denander, etc." The only way it could get better for Josh is if they said Wham!

If you were to play this album for someone, they'd definitely think that you were playing an 80's album, because it essentially is. The vocals, the sounds, the lyrics, and everything just scream cheesy 80's melodic rock. In my opinion, this is one of the best things to come out of Sweden since Let The Right One In. I've already bought the album, and if you like 80's melodic rock as much as I do, I highly recommend this to you as well. I'm only sad that I'm just hearing about this group now.

Leftovers - Derek Jeter Ties the Iron Horse!

Okay, I won't lie. I solely put this Leftovers up here to stick it to Josh. Last night, Derek Jeter, shortstop for the Yankees, tied Lou Gehrig for most amount of hits for a Yankee player, ever. With one more hit, Jeter will take the Yankee hit lead and set the new bar for future Yankees players to aspire to. Honestly though, watching Jeter do this has made me feel kinda old, as I can remember back in 95-96 when he first debuted for the Yanks. He really has come a long way since then. Like watching Don Mattingly back in the 80's and early 90's, watching Derek Jeter over these years has truly been a pleasure, and it's good to know that his number will join many great Yankee numbers in retirement.

The other stat I read that also amazes me is that Jeter is only 26 steals away from the Yankees franchise record for most stolen bases, held by Hall of Famer Rickey Henderson, without a doubt the best lead off hitter in all of baseball. It's honestly more of a testament to how great a player and base stealer that Rickey was, as it's taken Jeter 13-14 years to reach 300, while it took Rickey Henderson 4 years as a Yankee to get 326. I really just wanted to shake Rickey's hand when I saw him in the Mets locker room this year. Damn professional atmosphere. Anyway, here's to you, Derek Jeter. May you enjoy all of your future franchise records while hanging out at Broome Street Bar.

Leftovers - Football Season is Here!!!!

Wow, it's been forever since I did a "leftovers" segment (the part where I talk about stuff not necessarily movie related) on the show and the first time I'm going one for the blog. What could prompt me to bring the segment out of retirement? Well, it's time for a very special part of the year, a season I long for with bated breath, going into near drug withdrawal symptoms when it's over. Yes, it's time... it's FOOTBALL SEASON!!! Time for barbecues, time for Fantasy football, time for my NY Jets to disappoint me yet again, as I go into week long coma's waiting for Sunday to role around.

But the reason why I bring all of this up is because of a fantastic video from The Onion, America's finest fake news source. It's a video all about the Detroit Lions, the only football team in the modern era of the NFL to go win-less during a season, striking a blinding 0-16 to the sports gods themselves. Just some backstory about the NFL: every year many of the professional football players participate in mentoring programs, going down to the inner cities and spending times with kids less fortunate, trying to be proactive role models, someone the kids can look up to as they grow up in a harsh world. Well The Onion video has the NFL players mentoring the Detroit Lions players who are so excited to meet some of their "favorite" professional players, because well, after going 0-16, they are anything but professional. It's funny, hilarious, and sadly, oh so true. So sit back and enjoy because tomorrow, September 10th, brings an end to all our suffering, yes it's Football time!!!
