Fantastic Short Film Friday - Thursday (animated)

And we are back after a slight hiatus with another installment in our Fantastic Short Film Friday series, as we continue to showcase films released in the "lesser" known form of cinema- the short film.

This week we have for you a wonderful 3-D animated feast for the eyes, like a Chris Ware drawing come to life. Here is a 7-minute animated short called Thursday which is written and directed by Matthias Hoegg. It's a story about patterns, the patterns of our daily lives, the patterns of daily routine and how those patterns can be as wonderful and magical as we want them to be.

Set in the not too distant future, this is the story of an ordinary Thursday in a couples life, as they go about their ordinary day, and what may be ordinary to them is pretty extraordinary to us, a cluttered, cubicle invested cityscape that is not too far off from our own. The themes here are simply beautiful and universal. We all live predictable lives, day in and day out regardless if we want to. I for one live for that, going to the same bookstore, same coffee shop, same sandwich shop, so much so that wherever I go the stores the workers recognize me, being as much a part of their daily lives as they are in mine. The 3-D animation is a truly wonderful sight to behold, like a large quilt unwrapping before us and showing whats going on underneath.

What more can I say? This is one short that may seem simplistic at first, but hides hidden layers of fascination underneath. Do yourself a favor and check this out. It may just put your daily routine into perspective.
